Department Head for the Education Department
The Swedish Defence University is an internationally renowned institution in defense, crisis management, and security. We offer a unique academic environment where civilian meets military. We train civilian and military leaders, experts, and researchers who will analyze and manage today's and future crisis situations and security issues. The Swedish Defence University trains Sweden's officers and leads the academic development of the officer profession. We conduct research in law with a focus on operational law and international law, defense systems, war science, leadership and management, military history, and political science.
The Education Department consists of just over 20 employees and is primarily responsible for planning, developing, and implementing commissioned training in societal security, total defense, and security protection.
The department also has assignments through lectures and exercise activities. The target group is often public sector organizations with a growing participation from the private sector. The work is characterized by both longer planning perspectives as well as shorter and more urgent needs and assignments.
Job Responsibilities
As the department head, your main responsibilities will be to lead and develop the work with commissioned training at CTSS. You will be part of the center's management team and report to the center manager.
A large part of the assignment is to develop existing and new training programs to meet society's rapidly growing needs as well as to maintain good dialogue and processes with existing and new clients, and to navigate within areas that are under rapid development. Distance and online education is a growing area. A significant part of the work involves collaborating and maintaining good dialogue with our external clients as well as other institutions and activities at the Swedish Defence University.
You are responsible for creating good conditions for employees and the organization through structure, organization, and understanding of revenue-funded operations with quality as a guiding principle. You are expected to actively contribute to developing the center's working methods, knowledge sharing, and the management team's work in a changing time. It is therefore important that you have the ability to lead and drive change even when conditions may sometimes change.
Who Are We Looking For?
We are looking for someone who has:
- Relevant higher education in political science and/or law or other education deemed equivalent, such as the Swedish Defence University's leadership training for officers (HOP)
- Management experience with personnel responsibility in a relevant field
- Very good knowledge of the Swedish preparedness system, its actors and their needs, as well as the security political environment.
- Experience and interest in development and change management
- Experience with security routines and a high security awareness
Meritorious are:
- Experience from an academic institution
- Experience in public administration
- Knowledge of the needs of the private sector
- Experience in educational activities
- Knowledge of conditions for revenue-funded operations
As a person, you are driven, communicative, and have a responsive and inclusive approach with the ability to create and maintain relationships. You value good and constructive collaborations. Furthermore, you have a good ability to quickly switch between operational and strategic perspectives.

About the Employment
The position is a permanent full-time employment that begins with a six-month probationary period.
You will be employed as a senior course coordinator with a managerial assignment. The assignment is for three years with the possibility of extension.
The position is classified in a security class which requires an approved security clearance with background check. To undergo a security clearance, you must have Swedish citizenship according to the provisions of the security protection legislation.
The position will involve military placement. If you are already military placed in your current employment at an authority and your competence is needed in the Swedish Defence University's military organization, a negotiation will take place between the relevant authority and the Swedish Defence University regarding where you will be placed.

The Swedish Defence University applies individual salary setting. For the managerial assignment, a salary supplement will be added.
